I wish I had a good excuse for not running the past couple of months but I don’t. I kind of wish I had of a devastating injury but I don’t. I wish I could tell you how burned out I was after my 50 mile race in September but I wasn’t.
I really only have excuses to be honest.
Regardless, I am back training now. I have brought a few extra pound along with me but those shouldn’t be around for very long. Too much beer and the wrong foods packed 10 pound on me. I am back up to 210 but that will start to drop pretty quick. I expect to shed the 10 pounds over the next two months.
I have not been totally worthless to be honest. I have been biking to and from work the entire time. It is not very far but it did keep the legs moving a little bit until the desire returned to put on my running shoes and hit the trail again.
Right now the immediate goal is to just get consistent again in my training. I am not worried about time or distance right now. I just want to string a few weeks together running 5 days a week. I’ll keep the mileage low and the energy high while my body adjusts to the routine.
I will mostly be running at night and immediately after work. To kick out the cobwebs I started having my wife drop me off at work and then I run home after work. I currently don’t have a way to shower at work but that should change in the Spring. Then maybe I can run to work in the morning and home at night.
The shortest distance running home is 1.8 miles. I have three routes planned right now that are 1.8, 3, and 4 miles. I don’t even worry about pace on the runs home because I am wearing a backpack with my work cloths, shoes, jacket, iPhone and iPad. The pack is between 10 – 12 pounds. The legs feel that extra weight but it feel awesome.
I am running in Altra Superiors now. I have had them for months and finally breaking them out of the box and getting some miles on them. After a couple of weeks I’ll get a review up. Right now my initial reaction to them is mixed. More to come on the Altra Superiors.
I should have my tentative 2013 race schedule together soon. It will start to show up in the right side bar in the next couple of days. I know I want to run in several of the same races I did in 2012. All of the trail races in 2012 were my first time running them. Just the metal toughness alone will do wonders for my time in many of those race.
Despite my current condition I am excited about my ultra running in 2013!
