I have failed in my long runs for the last two weeks. Not a good thing when they are the most important part of my ultra training. I knew I bruised the balls of my feet when I ran in AZ. I did not think it would still be bothering me two weeks later.
My right foot is worse than my left. It is just borderline discomforting to make me change my footplant to avoid the feeling. On the pain scale from 1-10 it is only a 1 or a 2. Nothing major but enough to bother me and question doing anytihng longer than 5 miles.
After a run it feel odd when I walk. Almost like I have a big blister under the callus of the ball of my foot. I have poked and prodded it but I just can’t seem to find or see any blister. So this morning I think what is happening is the ball of the foot is swelling up a little after my runs. That would seem consistent with the odd feeling when I walk after runs. This morning the feeling is not there so I guess the swelling went down. If it was a blister under there I don’t think the odd feeling would go away.
So I have a decision to make. This week is the start of of my 8th week out of 13. It is a CD (cycle down) week for me where my mileage is reduced before it picks back up and increases a little each week leading up to my 50k. Do I take the week off and focus on core? I could maybe try to cycle this week to keep the legs pumping. Or I continue with the plan and hope the CD week’s mileage will allow me to recover in time for next week. I am leaning towards trying to cycle and focus on core. I am heading out of state for work so I’ll have to see if they have a stationary bike I ride.
Sadly, I guess I am injured. The foot doesn’t bother me when I am just walking around today so it is hard mentally to say I am injured and shouldn’t be running. I am off today anyway so I’ll see how the feet feel come Tuesday night.
